Raise Your Hands 1000 (@run1000k)

30th August - 24th September 2016

RYH1000 is a 1000km run around the UK undertaken by Ed Wethered in support of small charities that work with children. Ed believes passionately that small charities doing amazing work with children deserve support. Small charities don't have big marketing budgets and they don't have a wide support network - but that doesn't mean that the work that they do is any less important than the big charities.

So in order to raise money and awareness for them, the run route will visit the head offices of the 12 charities supported by Raise Your Hands. Ed wants to help these charities so that they can focus on what they do best; helping disadvantaged young people.

It's a massive challenge - equivalent to 27 marathons in 26 days - and one that Ed will struggle to complete on his own. So the run has been broken up into sections, and Ed is asking anyone that has a passion for taking on new challenges, getting fit and meeting new people to come and join him for as much or as little as they like.

He's not a big runner, he doesn't compete in races and he hasn't been running since he was 4 (in fact he only started 4 years ago!). But he's determined to at least try to complete this challenge to raise money and awareness for these 'under dogs' of the charity sector.

The Format

Raise Your Hands is about supporting charities in fun and innovative ways, and RYH1000 will be no different. We’ve teamed up with The London Beer Factory who will be providing runners with free craft beer at the end of the day from their converted London Beer Taxi. Ed is also going to bring along a 6kg BeatBringer speaker so we can listen to some quality tunes whilst running in some of the most beautiful parts of the English countryside.

There will be free beer from the London Beer Factory

Like a travelling radio request show hosted by DJ Forest Gump, Ed will be using your selection of music and your positive energy to help him complete this huge challenge.

RYH1000 gives people around the UK the chance to get active, become a part of a national challenge and show their support for small charities working with children in the UK. To be a RYH Runner means you are part of something bigger than yourself! You’re part of a community, a family, a team.

The Route

The route will visit the head offices of the 12 charities supported by Raise Your Hands.

The run will be broken into stages, allowing runners to complete as much or as little of the challenge as they like. There will be a variety of terrains – from the banks of the river Severn, to the undulating coasts of Cornwall and the well-trodden tracks of the Monarch’s Way.

The weekend legs have been specifically set to cover some seriously lush trails, and the majority will start/finish at major train stations.

The final day of the run offers marathon, half marathon and 10k options along the Grand Union and Regents Canals, finishing with a BIG party in Victoria park.

Ed is going to be carrying a BeatBringer speaker so that we can all listen to some sick tunes on some lush trails.

We've created a collaborative playlist, so if there are any songs you'd like to listen to while you're running along, you can add them here.
