Grief Encounter Jun 17 What we've been up to this month: This month, our newsletter is dedicated to the Grenfell Tower Tragedy. On the 14th June 2017, a fire started in one apartment in the tower, which quickly spread to the exterior of the building, proving too fierce for the first responding fire officers. As of the 28th June, 80 victims have been confirmed dead, whilst 18 still remain missing. A final figure of casualties is not expected until 2018 owing to the very complex identification process. Through our work with local schools and community centres, Grief Encounter is supporting victims of the fire, and their extended families. We have chosen to set up an appeal for the Grenfell Tower Tragedy, directly supporting the delivery of our bereavement services to those affected. Donations of money and goods to the victims have been overwhelming, thus we only wish to offer direct services to the local schools, community centres and families, offering 1-1 counselling, workshops and more. As a free service, we have already begun our work with the teams at Grenfell, however we are aware that this will be a long term project, offering support to those involved for as long as they need it. Due to this, we ask that you would be able to donate to us, and our Grenfell Tower fund, so that we are able to continue to offer our much needed services. You can donate to our Grenfell Tower Fund by clicking here. We need support to be able to offer our clinical team on site at local schools and community centres, holding 1-1 counselling and workshops for those affected. Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help! Once again, we sadly find ourselves offering advice on how to speak to children following a tragedy . If your child has been affected by the events that took place, and the news coverage they have seen, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us. Read more from Dr Shelley Gilbert here. This weekend saw Grief Encounter host our Family Fun Fishing Day. Inviting families past and present, the day is for children and adults alike to be together. We had a fabulous turnout and a great day was had by all. Celebrity ambassador Jeff Brazier celebrated 3 catches on the day, commenting that he was '#grateful' for being able to spend the day with us and his children.
