News Kidscape September 2016 At Kidscape, we see many children in desperate need of a friend, and witness the drastic difference it makes to their happiness and self-esteem when they find one. Firstly, we’d like to say a huge congratulations to Ed for completing his amazing RYH1000 run! What a brilliant achievement. Thanks from everyone at Kidscape – it was fantastic to see you when you popped in at the start of the challenge. It’s been a very busy month here in the office, here are a few highlights: As part of our flagship ZAP anti-bullying project, Danny, one of our trainers, visited pupils at a school in Sunderland last week. He worked with Year 5 & 6 pupils discussing types of bullying, the effects on children and how the pupils can support each other in school. Here’s a picture of Danny with some of the pupils. We’ve been putting the final touches to Friendship Friday – this is an annual school event we run at the beginning of the school year to help raise awareness of our work as well as vital funds to support us. It’s taking place on October 7th this year and is a non-school uniform day that celebrates the importance of friendship. At Kidscape, we see many children in desperate need of a friend, and witness the drastic difference it makes to their happiness and self-esteem when they find one. If you’re connected with a school in any way then it would be great to have you on board – you can find more information about Friendship Friday here, so please share with your networks. We’ve had some good news this month with some funding applications. Unfortunately we weren’t successful in obtaining the DfE grant we mentioned in previous updates, which was a real blow. But we’ve bounced back from that disappointment and have been awarded funds from other sources to develop some new projects, including some work in Wales (where there is a really big problem with bullying), and a new programme which will help build resilience in young people facing multiple challenges. It’s always really exciting to be able to put plans into action, and we’ve been wanting to do these new projects for ages, so we’re incredibly excited about moving forward with these. And we’re very pleased to say that we’ve rebooted our website and it’s now mobile-friendly! So if you need to access advice or tips on the go – it’ll be much easier now. Do have a look, we’d love to hear your feedback.
