What we've been up to this month:

Our FamilyFirstNights programme turned 20 years old this summer and we celebrated in style! As usual, we took 500 families who were on low income or facing other challenging circumstances to the theatre together for just £6 per ticket during the school summer holidays, giving them the chance to create magical and long-lasting family memories.

This year, however, we also held a drawing competition and hosted an exclusive performance of The Mousetrap for children and their grandparents. We called the event ‘A Gran’ Day Out’ and all the tickets were heavily discounted.

Families flocked to the theatre on 16 August to take part in this special day, which included face painting in the theatre foyer; a ‘lost granny’ (an actress who meandered through the foyer looking for her grandchildren); a special badge, and a chance to guess the murderer in the interval by filling in a ‘whodunnit’ form. The winners were announced at the end and received a special prize. A gran’ day out indeed!

“I had such a fantastic day out with my nan. We both love theatre and it was so lovely to spend some quality time together. The badges are so cute and I will really remember the day as it was so special and unique and brought me and my nan closer together. Thank you so much for making such a great idea - I would love for it to [happen] again. ‘A Gran’ Day Out’ was grand!”
