Ismael's story:

“It's been great to have started my career with Sport 4 Life. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity that was given to me and the support I received every step of the way.”

Last month, Sport 4 Life UK bid farewell to Employment & Training Assistant, Ismael Ali. Ismael has spent seven wonderful years with the organisation in journey that saw him start as a beneficiary. It's only fair to reflect on the amazing journey he's had with Sport 4 Life that started in 2011.

Ismael has always had a passion for sport and giving back, and started life with Sport 4 Life volunteering on a Sport 4 Life programme that provided young people from disadvantaged areas the opportunity to play organised sport. Ismael had completed school but wasn’t sure of his next steps, he lacked direction, but didn’t want to be drawn in with the wrong crowd. So he signed up to and participated in Sport 4 Life's pilot employability programme and didn’t look back. On the programme he figured out, with the help of a mentor, his next steps and what he needed to do to achieve them.

Putting his learning into practice, Ismael enrolled into college and continued to volunteer alongside his studies. In 2013 his skill and commitment was rewarded when he won StreetGames West Midlands Volunteer of the Year. After a couple of setbacks, Ismael landed his first job at Sport 4 Life as a part-time Sports Assistant in 2014. He has since progressed to a full-time role and worked as an Employment & Training Assistant on Sport 4 Life’s employability programme, where he was once a participant.

Ismael leaves Sport 4 Life to take up the post of Youth Worker at an organisation called The PUMP. Everyone at Sport 4 Life is immensely proud of Ismael’s achievements over the past seven years and glad that we were able to play a part in his journey.
