What we've been up to this month:

This summer, Switchback Trainee Josh moved into full-time work after three weeks on the Switchback programme. Josh joined Switchback to help him regain some confidence that he had lost in prison. He had a good work history and was always very capable of getting a job. However he also appreciated the benefits of taking the slow way round after release. This allowed him time to readjust to life after prison before moving back into longer term employment.

At times, Josh found adjusting to life after prison to be overwhelming. He found having the support of his Switchback Mentor to talk to through these periods invaluable. His confidence quickly grew with his café shifts. He later jumped on an opportunity with one of Switchback’s partner employers, and was offered the job after a successful trial shift. “I feel like I’ve really got my confidence back, like things are finally getting back to normal again”.

Josh still keeps in touch with his mentor and the Switchback team regularly. He has been doing great in his job and has started taking evening classes after discovering a real passion and flair for cooking. Next goal: Head Chef!
