What we've been up to this month:

We’re were stoked this month that one of our former clients Jay Davies won the Young Volunteer of the Year award at the Cornwall Sports Partnership awards. This is a wonderful achievement from Jay. He came to The Wave Project in 2015, then aged 14, having suffered from alopecia, which affected his confidence in school. Jay went on to complete his surf therapy course and joined our surf club, where he became a volunteer surf mentor, helping and supporting other young people.

Earlier this year Jay ran a tough mudder fun run to raise money for the surf club so we could reach more children. He was nominated for the award by the parent of another child we have helped and he… WON! We’re super proud of him. I have posted some “before and after” pictures of Jay in 2015, when he joined us, and now.

Elsewhere, our autumn surf therapy courses finished and were a big success. So far this year we have supported 784 children through free surf therapy programmes thanks to epic funders like Raise Your Hands!  Our surf club network organised some epic Halloween surfs at the end of October which were amazing fun.
