Providing pioneering services and support to bereaved children, young people and their families.

Why we're here

1 child in every classroom will experience the death of one or both parents, or a sibling before the age of 16. Our vision is that every bereaved child and their family in the UK receives the best quality information, advice and counselling to help alleviate the pain caused by grief.

What we do

Over the last 13 years, we’ve established a pioneering ‘Family Programme’ which includes one-to-one counselling, workshops, specialist resources, a bespoke 'Grief Relief Kit’, residential camps and 'Family Fun' days. We now offer support to some 400 bereaved children and young people monthly, offering our unique services including an interactive website and e-counselling.

Bereavement is devastating at any age, but for a child it is truly unimaginable. We provide a completely free service and, without any government funding, rely solely on private donations to keep services accessible, supporting bereaved children and their families. The emotions experienced by a child are deeply confusing and the affects can be life altering and long lasting. Grief Encounter is instrumental in identifying and offering the means to navigate out of the abyss of grief.
