What we've been up to this month:

Happy New Year from Grief Encounter!

In December, Grief Encounter was proud to be invited back to take part in the amazing 1 Million Minutes campaign by ITV’s Good Morning Britain. Set up in conjunction with UK charities, the month long campaign is designed to tackle the rising social issue of loneliness, and encouraging the public to volunteer their time to help! Grief Encounter work hard to connect bereaved children and young people, so that they have a way out of the isolation experiencing the death of a loved one can bring.

As part of our activities, we took 8 year old Sophia, who has been supported by Grief Encounter since the death of her mother 4 years ago, live on Good Morning Britain to talk about the work we do. You can watch her interview here! She very quickly won the hearts of both the presenters and viewing public with her infectious positive attitude.

It didn’t stop there! Just before Christmas, we told our wonderful Grief Encounter Children’s Choir, a group of 6 – 12 year olds who receive bespoke music therapy following the death of a parent or sibling, that they would be carolling for commuters in St Pancras for the day. In fact, we surprised them live on air, in association with Good Morning Britain, with a trip to Disneyland Paris!

After a very exciting journey on the Eurostar with GMB presenter Iwan Thomas, we arrived and took to the Disney Stage to sing carols with Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto and Goofy for the UK viewing public in a special performance on the ITV show. The children had the most incredible time, and made memories to last forever. You can watch some of their incredible journey here.

Last week, to end the campaign, the children’s choir sung live at the first ever 1 Million Minutes Awards Show at ITV Studios. Singing to a star-studded celebrity audience, the choir received a standing ovation. It has been an incredible opportunity to be involved with this amazing campaign, which, to date, has encouraged the public to donate more than 150 million minutes of volunteering time in the UK. Thank you Good Morning Britain!

We look forward to sharing our 2020 news with you this year!
