What we've been up to this month:

In the midst of the London heatwave, Siemens Mobility Ltd, invited a group of Switchback Trainees for a visit to learn about careers in the rail industry.

The group heard from staff who work across different parts of the company, explaining their roles, responsibilities and how they progressed in their careers. For first-hand experience of what working in rail would be like, the group also got a tour of the test station - including walking on the tracks and visiting a disaster simulation tunnel!

Trips like this, are just one of the many Trainee Experiences we run as part of the Switchback programme to broaden Trainees’ horizons in different ways. These trips range from camping and surfing in Dorset to employer visits like this one, allowing Trainees to see into industries and jobs that they might not have considered before and to hear first-person accounts of those working in them.

Siemens Mobility Ltd is a well-established company that has a lot of experience with technological innovation, so we were extremely excited to have the opportunity to meet the staff and see behind the scenes!

Despite the sweltering London heat, Switchback Trainees left the trip feeling really inspired and enthusiastic about potential career in rail:

“I thought this trip was so insightful. I’ve wanted to get into project management for a while, so to meet the team, hear what paths they took to get into their current roles, as well as ask them questions, was really helpful for me”
