What we've been up to this month:

At CHIVA, we held our 10th annual support camp for children and young people this August! We welcomed 80 children and young people living with HIV to our annual 5 day support camp, this year held in Staffordshire. The ten year anniversary was was a special one for us and we wanted to mark this occasion with a trip down memory lane.

Our Youth Committee lead a celebration event which included people from previous camps returning to talk about what attending camp had meant to them and how they now felt about their HIV as young adults. It was a powerful reminder of how important this space is for young people.

The returnees all talked about gaining acceptance and understanding their HIV for the first time by coming to camp. They focused on empowerment, community, strength and friendship. For us, it was incredible to see how much the older young people still carried with them from the experience of coming to camp when they were young.

We also held a 10 year themed ‘bake off’ competition!

A big thank you to all in the Raise Your Hands community, we use the grant we receive from you to support our annual support camp. We now need to make sure we continue this for the next 10 years!
