The Home of Football What we've been up to this month The summer months have seen some amazing experiences for FBB participants. FBB peer mentors @ St George’s Park Over the August Bank Holiday weekend a group of eight peer mentors and one new project assistant went to the home of English football, St George’s Park, to receive training as youth coaches. The partnership with the English FA sees former participants from our programme becoming volunteers to support the development of the next generation of girls. At the end of the trip, the girls were greeted by for England international Rachel Yankey and current Lionesses Leah Williamson, Nikita Parris, Keira Walsh and FIFA Women’s Footballer of the Year nominee, Lucy Bronze, who answered questions from the girls about their experiences as professional female footballers. FBB Participant Gui’s visit to Old Trafford In July, 13 year old FBB participant Gui’s mother tragically lost her life. It was a harrowing moment but the day after Gui was adamant that he wanted to join his FBB classmates at school. After hearing about what had happened, FBB Patron Chris Smalling invited Gui to Old Trafford to watch the first game of the Premier League season against Chelsea and to meet some of his Man Utd heroes. Chris presented him with a shirt with Gui’s name on the back that had been signed by the entire squad. FBB Summer School with Fulham Footballer Cyrus Christie This summer we have also delivered five summer schools in collaboration with different partners, one of which was Fulham Footballer Cyrus Christie and his clothing label Section. To celebrate the success of the Summer School, Cyrus invited a number of participants to a Fulham v Millwall in the Championship.
